Community funded solar panels

Cannock Chase is the second most deprived area in Staffordshire, after Stoke on Trent. But some good news have been given to council tenants in the area. The Chase Community Solar project, which is supported by Cannock Chase Council, is planning to install solar panels on up to 400 properties, with installation on 150 roofs, initially. The tenants will be able to use the energy for free, providing more savings on their energy bills. This is particularly great news for the tenants as keeping up with energy bills is a common issue, especially for the low-income householders. Most of the tenants in this project are the elderly.

Anyone over the age of 16 can also buy a stake in the project with a minimum investment of £100. And not only will they receive a fair annual return of 7%, they’ll be contributing to the project’s funding which will hopefully be able to install more solar panels in the community.

This is the first scheme of its kind in the UK. Lets hope that other councils and communities can begin a similar operation and on top of that, lets hope this project at Cannock Chase council will be a success in exceeding their maximum target of proving solar panels on 400 homes.
